Oregon Short Line

Oregon Short Line No. 762 is a rotary snowplow it was constructed for the Oregon Short Line by ALCO's Rogers locomotive and Machine Works in 1912.

It spent most of its life blowing snow of the tracks on the Oregon Short Line railroad.

In 1971, the plough was retired from active service, and it was moved to a restaurant at Blackfoot, Idaho for display. By 1980, the owners of the restaurant no longer wanted the plough anymore and it was donated to the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, Wisconsin where it resides today on static display.

Trivia[]

  • The original body was wood sided, but the Union Pacific later replaced this with more durable riveted steel plates.
  • The Thomas and Friends character, Dustin, is based on this rotary snowplow.
