Northern Pacific No. 177 (also known as Northern Pacific No. 525 and Burlington Northern No. 407) is a Baldwin DRS-6-6-1500 that was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Northern Pacific Railway in August 1948.

History[]

Northern Pacific No. 177 was constructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in August 1948, during the production of the Baldwin DRS-6-6-1500 locomotives, and it was delivered to the Northern Pacific Railway that same year in 1948.

No. 177 was the sole example of a Baldwin DRS-6-6-1500 that was ever ordered by the Northern Pacific Railway.

When the locomotive was delivered to the Northern Pacific Railway, it was first numbered as No. 177 by the Northern Pacific Railway, but later on its career, it would be renumbered by the Northern Pacific themselves as No. 525.

Then, when the Northern Pacific Railway had merged with the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (Burlington Route) and the Great Northern Railway to become the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1970, No. 525 was renumbered by Burlington Northern as No. 407.

The locomotive would later be rebuilt into a Baldwin DRS-6-6-1500M in March 1959 and retained its number of #407. It was later retired from active service on Burlington Northern in June 1972, and its current whereabouts are unknown.
