Norfolk & Western No. 1240 was a four-cylinder simple articulated 2-6-6-4 Steam Locomotive that was among one of the N&W Class A steam locomotives built between 1949 and 1950.

History[]

Norfolk and Western Class A No. 1240 was a four-cylinder simple articulated 2-6-6-4 Steam Locomotive that was among one of the eight 1949–1950 batch of Norfolk and Western Class A that was build between 1949-1950.

Excursion Train[]

When N&W started withdrawing the Class A's. No. 1240 was acquired for an excursion train known as the "N&W's Farewell to steam" excursion train along with Y6B #2174.

Disposition[]

Sadly though, despite N&W No. 1218 being set aside for preservation, No. 1240 wasn't set aside for preservation, and it was cut up or scrap in 1959 after the N&W Farewell to Steam Excursion came to an end leaving only 1218 behind alone.
