History[]
In the 1900s, the Norfolk and Western needed more steam locomotives for their usage on their system, so ALCO's Richmond Shops had drew up plans for a 4-6-2 steam locomotive for the Norfolk and Western Railway, Enter the Norfolk & Western Class E, these locomotives were constructed in 1905 and a total of five examples of these 4-6-2 steam locomotives were ever constructed for the Norfolk and Western Railway.
Withdrawal of the class had occurred between 1934-1939, and the last example (No. 595) was out of service and all five were cut up for scrap, thus rendering them extinct.
