The Norfolk and Western Class E3 was a class of five 4-6-2 "Pacific" type steam locomotive that were supposed to be delivered to the Pennsylvania Railroad as the Pennsylvania Railroad Class K3a that were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1913 but would be sold and delivered to the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1930.
History[]
A total of five examples were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1913 and they were delivered to the Pennsylvania Railroad but would be sold and delivered to the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1930. Either way, they were all delivered to the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1930 and had their classification as "ex-Pennsylvania Railroad Class K3a" or "Norfolk and Western Railway Class E3".
They operated in revenue service on the Norfolk and Western Railway until the mid-1940s, they were withdrawn from active service from 1944 to 1949, and not a single one of them was preserved, they were all scrapped, with all examples of the Pennsylvania Railroad Class K3a following them to oblivion.
