Nippon Sharyo Co. Ltd. is a major Japanese rolling stock manufacturer.

The company's history as a whole dates back to 1896 when it was founded by businessman Masaka Okuda as Nippon Sharyō Seizō K.K. The name of the company, Nippon Sharyo, literally means "Japanese Vehicle". Nippon Sharyo Seizō established factories in Toyokawa, Tokyo, Nagoya, Otone and Kinuura among other places. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1996 and shortened its name to simply Nippon Sharyo. Nippon Sharyo also attempted to expand into the American market in 2012 with Nippon Sharyo USA Inc. with a plant in Rochelle, Illinois; this was short-lived and the plant closed in 2018 due to a lack of orders.

Today, Nippon Sharyo is one of the biggest locomotive manufacturers in Japan, not only manufacturing vehicles for domestic use, but also for export. Nippon Sharyo has strong ties to JR Central, for it is partly owned by them; many vehicles around the central region of Japan are also manufactured by Nippon Sharyo.
