828 operates on the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway as No. 6428.

Nickel Plate Road No. 828 is a 2-8-4 "Berkshire" built by the American Locomotive Company in August 1942 for the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway as No. 6428 where it used to work hauling freight trains.

It later transfer to the Nickel Plate Road railroad and was renumbered No. 828 in 1949.

It operated on the Nickel Plate Road railroad for many years until it was sold for scrap in 1962.

In 2021 No. 765 was renumbered to 828 for NKP 757 for temporally before turning back to No. 765
