Nickel Plate Road No. 777 is a class S-3 2-8-4 "Berkshire" Type steam locomotive built in 1949 by Lima for the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad, commonly referred to as the "Nickel Plate Road".

This type of locomotive was served mainly as freight haulers across Ohio and Indiana while operating on the Nickel Plate Road railroad.

Soon afterwards it was scrapped.

  • It was one of a final order of ten Berkshire (2-8-4) type locomotives placed by the Nickel Plate Railroad (#770-#779), bringing their total roster of this type to eighty.
  • It was never built for hauling passenger trains.
