No. 44 is a class P 4-6-0 "Ten Wheeler" type steam Locomotive built by the Brooks Locomotive Works for the Nickel Plate Road (NKP) in 1905. No. 44 and its siblings were Intended for fast freight duty. In 1910 the NKP renumbered the class from 40-54 to 300-315, with No. 44 becoming No. 304.

It served on several different railroads over the years. It was sold to Akron, Canton & Youngstown Railway Co. in 1923, then the Dansville & Mount Morris Railroad in 1929, then to Myers Steel & Supply Co. in 1957 and then to Nelson Blount in 1963.

It was eventually donated to the Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was renumbered back to 44. It is now on static display awaiting a possible cosmetic restoration.
