New York Central Railroad No. 5342 was a black 4-6-4 steam locomotive that was built for the New York Central Railroad in 1927.
History[]
NYC No. 5342 was built in 1927[1] by the American Locomotive company at Schenectady as part of the New York Central's J1e class "Hudson" 4-6-2 tender engines. As a J1e,[1] No. 5342 was designed to haul express passenger trains, like the famous 20th Century Limited.[2] All New York Central J class "Hudsons" were withdrawn and scrapped in the 1950s,[2] following dieselization of the NYC System. With No. 5342 being allegedly withdrawn in 1957[Not cited.].
