No. 6040 is a AD60 class 4-8-4+4-8-4 steam locomotive that was built by Beyer, Peacock & Company in 1956.

After being withdrawn on the 17th November, 1967, it was put into storage. It was later given to the Transport Heritage NSW. However, during storage it became rusted. The engine was displayed unrestored until 1991. It received a cosmetic repaint into black livery by a group of NSWRTM members.
