The Norwegian State Railways XXI Class are 2-6-2 side tank steam locomotives.

History

The XXI class are a class of four side tank 2-6-2 locomotives designed specially for the Setesdal Line of the Norwegian State Railways for which they became the first locomotives to run on. The first two locomotives of the class were ordered from Dübs and company of Scotland in early 1894 being delivered in the later months of that year. The next member of the class was built in 1901 by Thunes Mechanical Workshop of Oslo, Norway and the last was built by the Hamar Iron Foundry in 1912. The class operated on the line from it's opening to it's closure in 1962.

Preservation

No.1, 2 and 5 have all been preserved with No.5 being operational, No.1 and 2 being in storage. No.7 wasn't so lucky and was scrapped upon the lines closure.
