No.252 is a 2-6-0 tender steam locomotive.

History

No.252 was built in 1912 by the Hamar Iron Foundry for the Norwegian State Railways as part of their 21b subclass. No.252 originally operated on the Smaalens line (Østfold line) it then ran for a short period on the Treungen line (Arendal-Nelaug-Treungen) in 1937 and 1938 before being transfored to the Numedalsbanen district where it pulled goods train number 5398 which became the last normal scheduled train to be pulled by steam on the NSR. It then pulled mineral trains from Kongsberg to the Svene crushing plant.

In October 1970 No.252 became the last steam locomotive used by the NSR for regular duties. The next year in 1971 No.252 was withdrawn along with No.207 and No.376 all of the 21 class being the last steam locomotives to be withdrawn by the Norwegian State Railways. No.252 is preserved and is currently under restoration to working order for use by the Norwegian Railway Club.
