The Norwegian State Railways 2 (2a) Class are 2-4-0 tender steam locomotive.

History

The 2 (2a) class are a class of three tender 2-4-0 locomotives. All three members of the class were built in 1861 by Robert Stephenson and company of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The class were primarily used for passenger services on the Norwegian State Railways until 1920 when the last was withdrawn.

Preservation

Two members have been preserved being No.16 which is one display in the Norwegian State Railways Museum in Hamar and is the oldest preserved locomotive in Norway. While the other No.17 is operational and occasionally operates along the main line and was named Caroline in 1954 after being rescued from a paper mill. Caroline is Norway's oldest operating locomotive.
