Näs - Morshyttans Railway No. 2 Horndal was a 0-6-2 side tank steam locomotive, operating in central Sweden from 1881 to 1914.
History[]
Horndal was built in 1881 by Nydqvist & Holm of Trollhättan in modern-day Västra Götaland County as builder's No. 149[1] for the 891 mm narrow gauge Näs - Morshyttans Railway (NMJ) in modern-day Avesta Municipality.[2]
Built to the same design as older sibling NMJ No. 1 Näs, it was numbered 2 and named after a mill the railway was constructed to serve. Horndal worked on both passenger and goods trains, and was withdrawn from service in 1914, being replaced by NMJ No. 4 - which took the name Horndal after the original was scrapped.[2]
