N-QUALIS (Quality Lifelong Safety) is the family name Nippon Sharyo uses for their "next-generation" railcars made of stainless steel as well as a product line of next-generation technologies for use in railcars. The cars are designed to cater to the three principles set forth by the series; a high-quality train which is safe and can last a long time.
The cars are manufactured with attention taken with the structural members of the cars, arranged in such a way to improve strength. The sets are also noted as being highly watertight as the number of structural seals used has been reduced. The N-QUALIS product line consists of four items: commuter railcars, limited express railcars, condition monitoring systems and the NS-type bogie.
The cars come in a wide variety of design styles to cater to various needs. The trains are also intended to be produced for export.
