Mt Lyell No.4 was a steam locomotive that operated on the Mount Lyell Mining Mountain Railway.

History[]

Not much is known about No.4 as it is also known. It was known however that crews didn't like the locomotive claiming it to be 'all show and no go'. The problems seemed to have arrived after conversion from coal to oil burning most likely a problem with oil release valve. It was very rarely seen pulling passenger trains and was mostly kept back to only shunting never mind mineral traffic if it would even be chosen to work.

Trivia[]

  • Abt No.4 has no name.
  • Abt no.4 is buried in a Lime Stone pit which is now flooded after being used as a stationary boiler for the limestone company.
  • It was most likely meant to Replace Mt Lyell Baldwin No.4.
