Mt Lyell also known as Abt No.3 arrived on the Mt Railway with Abt No.2.

History[]

Mt Lyell No.3 mainly worked on mineral trains and shunting with later the occasional passenger train. After the Mt Lyell Mountain Mining Railway closed it was stored and later in the early 1990's plinthed on a replica section of trestle bridge and track in Queenstown rail yard in public view. It was put of display in about 1998 and given a rebuild to work on the West Coast Wilderness Railway which is the Mt Lyell railway but renamed.

Trivia[]

  • Abt No.3 has no name
  • Abt No.3 is more distinctive than the other Abt locomotives due to it being painted black instead of green
