The Mount Lyell Number One also known as abt No. 1 was the first locomotive along with Mt Lyell No.2 to work on the Mt Lyell abt system rack railway.


History[]

Abt No.1 was built in Glasgow in 1896 as builders number 3369 for the Mt Lyell mountain railway from Queenstown to Strahan. Originally pulling mineral trains and later passenger trains the engine was stored after 1963 when the railway closed it is know preserved and operates on the West Coast Wilderness Railway which is the original Mt Lyell railway but renamed.

  • Abt No.1 has no name
  • It along with it's sisters are the only surviving Dubs 0-4-2 locomotives of this design.
