The Meitetsu 7300 series is a Japanese limited express electric multiple unit operated by the Nagoya Railroad (Meitetsu) from 1971 to April 1997.
History[]
The 7300 series sets were introduced in 1971 as a limited express train for direct express lines. The sets were essentially newly bodied trains using equipment from scrapped trains; due to their equipment these were classified as "AL Cars" by Meitetsu and could couple and work in multiples with other AL cars. One set was experimentally fitted with a destination sign on the front gangway. The sets were first use mainly on branch lines but later came to be used on subway lines and short lines. The trains were retired on 13 April 1997, with 28 cars moved to the Toyohashi Railroad for use.
Design[]
The 7300 series sets use a flat front end with top-mounted headlights and marker lamps.
Specifications[]
Construction is of steel. The trains used resistor-controlled traction systems and traction motors from scrapped 3800 series trains.
The trains featured a musical horn which produces a modulating tone using a transistor oscillator circuit; initially the horns were branded the "transistor horn" to showcase that they used the latest technology. These horns were later removed.
