There were once thousands of narrow gauge steam locomotives around the world that were built to serve various needs on railways such as mining, logging, freight, switching shunting or even passenger trains. Eventually when diesels started to come into fruition, many steam locomotives were retired or withdrawn from service and were placed into scrapyards or were just simply left behind where they used to work to rust and waste away.
Many narrow gauge steam locomotives survived into preservation but not all classes of narrow gauge steam locomotives fared as well and have been lost to time. These are some of the locomotive classes that no longer exist.
