Grand Trunk Western 5629 being Scrapped
Although it is uncommon, there are some recorded instances of steam locomotives that have been scrapped in preservation or during the preservation era. Some of these locomotives were scrapped as a result of error or misunderstanding, or as the result of legal issues between locomotive owners and other parties. Other locomotives were never earmarked for preservation and were only intended to run a "farewell excursion" before they were eventually scrapped.
