Louisville and Indiana Railroad SW1200 9321 being scrapped

Louisville and Indiana No. 9321 being scrapped by Gershow Recycling in 2020.

This is a list of diesel locomotives that were initially preserved, but wound up being scrapped or sold off during their time in preservation for many reasons such as being in poor condition, mechanical problems, being rendered surplus to requirements by their owners, and many other reasons.

Most of the locomotives on this list were owned by either a railroad museum, railroad historical society, or tourist railroad in some capacity, or were put on static display in a public location. Others were considered for preservation, or attempts were made to preserve them, attempts which ultimately did not follow through.
