The Lehigh Valley No. 5212 was a class T2b 4-8-4 "Wyoming" type locomotive built by ALCO in 1943 for both passenger and freight service. Although Mikado no. 432 dropped its fire on September the 14th, 1951, number 5212 hung on to life a little longer until December 12, the following year; unfortunately, the locomotive was scrapped, and no LV steam locos were saved for posterity. Today, only the bell survives, and it's on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.
Trivia[]
- Like some US railroads, the Lehigh Valley Railroad refused to call its 4-8-4's "Northerns", but instead they called them "Wyomings" after the Wyoming Valley, deep in LV territory.
