LNER Class A3 No. 2506 Salmon Trout was a class A1/A3 4-6-2 steam locomotive that was built for the London and North Eastern Railway by the LNER's own Doncaster Works in 1934.

History[]

LNER Class A3 No. 2506 Salmon Trout was constructed in 1934 by the LNER's own Doncaster Works, and it entered service on the lines by the London and North Eastern Railway. When Edward Thomspon succeeded Sir Nigel Gresley, No. 2506 was renumbered to 41 under Edward Thomspon's renumbering scheme.

After the 1948 Nationalization had created British Railways/British Rail No. 2506 was renumbered from 41 to 60041 by British Rail.

It was withdrawn from service in December 1965 when British Rail began replacing steam locomotives to diesel and electric locomotives, and it was scrapped at St Margaret's Shed, Edinburgh in April 1966. With only some of it surviving into preservation, and the said parts of No. 2506 Salmon Trout that had survived into preservation were its boiler, cylinders and its chimney being the only parts left of No. 2506 Salmon Trout.
