Locomotive Wiki

No. 4901 is a Stanier class 5 4-6-0 steam locomotive that was built for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway by Crewe Works in 1945. After the nationalisation of Britain’s railways in 1948, it was renumbered to 44901.

It was withdrawn in August 1965 and was sent to the Woodham Brothers Scrapyardin Barry for scrap. It was one of the last ten remaining locomotives in the scrapyard becoming one of the Barry Ten. Eventually the final ten were all finally removed from the scrapyard in the 2010s with 4901 leaving the scrapyard itself in 2013.

It is now currently stored at the Vale of Berkeley Railway undergoing restoration to operational condition for the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.
