The London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Princess Royal Class No. 6203 (British Railways No. 46203) Princess Margaret Rose is a preserved British steam locomotive.
Overview[]
6203 was constructed at Crewe Works, under work number 253 of 1935, being the third locomotive. It was named Princess Margaret Rose after a daughter of Albert, Duke of York, later King George VI. The locomotive was used to haul heavy and the fastest passenger trains from London to Glasgow. When nationalization occurred, BR renumbered her 46203. She was withdrawn in 1963.
She was originally bought by Billy Butlins of Butlins holiday camps and was shuffled around from site to site frequently.
'Princess Margaret Rose' is now owned by The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust and is on static display at the West Shed Museum, Midland Railway-Butterley, Ripley, Derbyshire.
Trivia[]
- It is one of two LMS Princesses to be preserved, the other being Princess Royal Class No. 6201 Princess Elizabeth.
