7564 is a 3F "Jinty" 0-6-0 steam locomotive built for the LMS as 16647 by Hunslet Engine Co Ltd in 1928. Later the engine was renumbered to 7564. 16647 was built for shunting and did that for many years. In 1948 when the LMS was merged with other companies to form British Railways, the engine became 47564 and served intill being withdrawn in March, 1965 and used as a stationary boiler for carriage heating in Manchester.
It was recovered from Red Bank Carriage Sidings near Manchester in 1972 It was acquired by the Midland Railway Trust to provide spares for the other Jinty class locomotives at Butterley as by then it had no cab, bunker or tanks. This locomotive is owned by Derby City Museums and Art Gallery and long term lease to the Midland Railway Trust.
