The KuMoYu 141 series was a Japanese electric tractor unit operated by the Japanese National Railways from 1967 to March 1986.

History

The KuMoYu 141 series cars were designed as a dedicated baggage and mail car for for use by the JNR. A total of ten cars were built by Kisha Seizō and Nippon Sharyo's Tokyo and Toyokawa Factories. The cars entered service in 1967, operated on the Takasaki, Jōetsu and Shin'etsu Main Lines by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and owned by the JNR. The cars were also used briefly on the Tōkaidō Main Line.

The cars were retired from service on 1 March 1986 prior to the release of that year's revised timetable; dedicated baggage and mail services were discontinued on the JNR on 1 October 1986, by which point all ten cars had been removed from JNR's register. All ten cars were scrapped prior to JNR's privatization and division.

Design

The 141 series cars featured a squared off design similar to many shunting vehicles of the time. The locomotives were painted in Shōnan Orange.
