The Kintetsu 8A series is a Japanese city commuter electric multiple unit operated by the Kintetsu Railway since October 2024.
History[]
The 8A series sets are a series of commuter trains on order by the Kintetsu Railway for use on the Nara, Kyoto, Kashihara and Tenri Lines. A total of 21 four-car sets are slated to be built from 2024 onwards. The sets entered service on 7 October 2024; 12 sets are slated to be delivered in 2024 while 9 sets are slated to be delivered in 2025.
The 8As are the first commuter trains introduced by the Kintetsu Railway since 2004 with the 7020 series.
Design[]
The 8A series uses an angular design, making use of sharp corners for its design. It features a red body with ivory accents, a reverse of the usual Kintetsu commuter livery where the trains use a ivory body with red accents.
Specifications[]
Construction is likely of an aluminum alloy. The trains use Mitsubishi SiC-based MOSFETS as a traction system.
Anti-fall plates are installed on the cab cars of each set, a first for Kintetsu models. Each car has reconfigurable seats which can be reconfigured into abreast or bench seating depending on the situation. Each car features a large space branded the Yasashiba for strollers or large baggage. Each car is fitted with four security cameras and each cab features emergency communication devices. Passenger-actuated door buttons are featured, a first for a Kintetsu train.
