The Kintetsu 26000 series is a Japanese limited express electric multiple unit operated by the Kintetsu Railway since March 1990.
History[]
The 26000 series sets were designed as a higher-class trainset for use on Kintetsu's narrow gauge lines. A total of two sets were produced in 1990, entering service on 15 March 1990 with the introduction of Kintetsu's revised timetable that year.
The trains were refurbished from 2010 to 2011 to improve the onboard facilities. The sets were the recipient of the 1990 Good Design Award.
Design[]
The 26000 series sets use a unique design with a white body with pink accents on an "egg-shaped" body; the sets's design takes inspiration from the 21000 series Urban Liner sets. Design of the sets was overseen by Masamichi Tesen and Rikuhei Yamauchi.
Specifications[]
Construction is of steel. The trains use resistor-controlled traction systems; these were designed in a transitional period of Kintetsu's limited express trains, combining older technologies such as resistor-controlled traction systems and Schlieren trucks with newer technologies which would be standard in all trains from this one.
