The Kintetsu 21020 series is a Japanese limited express electric multiple unit operated by the Kintetsu Railway since December 2002.

History[]

The 21020 series sets were designed as a modern train that could be used to supplement the 21000 series sets which were nearly 15 years old. Two sets were produced in 2002, both by Kinki Sharyo; the sets entered temporary service on 23 December 2002 before entering full service on 6 March 2003 with the introduction of the revised timetable. These sets were designated the Urban Liner next. The sets were the recipient of the 2003 Blue Ribbon Award.

Design[]

The 21020 series sets use a unique design with a white body with Fresh Orange accents on a swoopy body with many curves; the sets's design takes inspiration from "the face of one living in Kansai", with a softer design than that of the 21000 series sets. The design of the trains was overseen by the Kinki Sharyo Design Department.

Specifications[]

Construction is of steel. The trains use 2-level Mitsubishi IGBT traction systems which produce a futuristic sound.
