Career[]
A total of ten locomotives of this class were built. The ten locomotives were built to mainline standards, and were sold by the Railway Operating Department at the end of World War I to a variety of buyers including the Alexandra (Newport and South Wales) Docks and Railway, Brecon and Merthyr Railway, East Kent Light Railway (EKLR) and other private users including collieries.
Three of these locomotives were inherited by the Great Western Railway, two of which entering British Railways (BR) stock. No. 667 survived until 1954 and No. 666 until 1955. The two 'Victories' were ex-Alexandria Dock Railway Co engines. 2161, the third GWR 'Victory', worked for the Brecon and Merthyr Railway as their No. 35 before being sold to the GWR and re-numbered 2161. 2161 was sold to Ashington Colliery in Northumberland in 1929 where it worked for several years until being scrapped. The EKLR locomotive entered Southern Railway ownership and finished its life with BR, though it was scrapped in 1949 and never carried its allocated number of 30948. Seven of the locomotives ended up in service with the National Coal Board with the last example being scrapped in 1969. None of the class have survived into preservation.
