The Keihan 700 series is a Japanese streetcar type operated by the Keihan Electric Railway since October 1997.

History[]

The 700 series cars were introduced as a modern train type to replace the older 80 series cars and to prepare for voltage boosting on the Ishiyama Sakamoto Line. Five sets of two cars were manufactured at Keihan's own Nishigōri Works from 1992 to 1993. Operation of the sets commenced on 1 May 1992.

Design[]

The 700 series feature what is essentially a modified version of the 600 series body style, albeit with the headlights recessed into the body. They were originally painted in seafoam green with white accents, Keihan's old corporate livery; they were repainted into Keihan's new corporate livery from 2017 to 2021.

Specifications[]

Construction of the cars is of steel. The sets were constructed using bogies and electrical equipment from scrapped 350 and 500 series cars and fitting them with new bodies.

These are the most powerful cars to run on the Ishiyama Sakamoto Line, designed to be able to handle the increased 1,500 V DC voltage from manufacture.
