The Keihan 2400 series is a Japanese city commuter electric multiple unit operated by the Keihan Electric Railway since December 1969.
History[]
The 2400 series cars were introduced in 1969 to complement the 2200 series cars which entered service in 1964. These sets were designed based on the 2200 series, but were equipped with air conditioning; these were most notably the first trains in the Kansai region to introduce in-car air conditioning. These were however not the first trains in Japan to introduce air conditioning, with the Keio 5000 series sets based in Kantō gaining air conditioning a year prior.
Despite the sets being introduced in December 1969, the air condition was only used from 15 May 1970. Numerous refurbishment works were carried out from 1988 to 1991, with other further modifications, usually minor, being made from 2002 onwards. The sets were repainted into the new Keihan corporate livery starting in 2008. All sets remain in service as of 2021, a rarity for cars of this age on one of Japan's main private railroads.
Design[]
The 2400 series use a conventional squared-off design with dual top-mounted headlights as is typical of many Keihan electric multiple units. These feature a simple design. These headlights were later converted into LED fixtures. The sets feature two different forms of express daytime running lights.

Construction of the cars is of steel. Cars are 18.7 meters long. The sets use field excitation resistance control.
