The Keihan 1900 series is a Japanese rapid express (later city commuter) electric multiple unit operated by the Keihan Electric Railway from 1963 to December 2008.

History[]

The 1900 series was introduced as a new series of express train to replace earlier express trains. The cars were produced by rebuilding older 1810 series cars at Keihan's Neyagawa Works as well as new-build cars produced by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The 1900 series were noted as having a long service life, with scrapping only beginning in 2006 and being fully replaced in 2008 after some 45 years of service. No 1900 series cars have been preserved.

Design[]

The 1900 series use a conventional squared-off design with dual top-mounted headlights as is typical of many Keihan electric multiple units. These feature a simple design with dual headlights in either sealed beam or rectangular formations, the latter being used for sets converted from 1810 series cars. The trains were never painted into Keihan's newer corporate livery of Rest Green (dark green) with Fresh Green (chartreuse) accents, although they received the previous corporate livery of Keihan Turquoise (dark cyan) with Wakakusa (teal) accents as well as the orange and maroon Limited Express livery.
