The JNR Class HD60 was a proposed 4-8-4 Northern-type steam locomotive intended to be operated by the Japanese National Railways.
History[]
The Class HD60s were designed by the Japanese Ministry of Railways as part of the Japanese bullet train project, which was ultimately canceled due to the onset of the Pacific War and none were ultimately produced. The train was intended to be based on the Mantetsu MaTeNi Class locomotives and intended to be used for freight services, but other than that, even less is known about the HD60 than its other bullet train counterparts, particularly the HD53.
