The JNR Class B50 was a 4-4-0 American-type superheated steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1928 to 1958.
History[]
The Class B50 is in essence a superheated derivative of the Class 6700 locomotives. The locomotives were converted from twenty-seven Class 6700 locomotives from 1928 to 1930, with the conversions taking place at JGR's Hamamatsu, Kokura, Ōmiya and Takatori Works.
These, like the Class 6700s, were also used to pull short passenger trains. They were mostly located around the Nagoya and Osaka regions. In their later lives the locomotives were used for shunting. All locomotives were retired by 1958, with none sold to private railroads. No Class B50s have been preserved.
