The JGR Class 8500 (originally the Sanyo Railway Class 27) was a 2-6-0 Mogul-type Vauclain compound steam locomotive built for the JGR in 1905.

History

The 8500s, originally known as the Class 27, was essentially a locally-produced copy of the Class 8450; little is known about the locomotives' service history. Two locomotives were produced by the Sanyo Railway's own shops. The locomotives were later renamed to Class 8500 in 1909 with the establishment of a formal rule regarding locomotive naming after the Sanyo Railway was nationalized. The locomotives were retired in 1923.

No locomotives survived into preservation.
