The JGR Class 8400 (originally the Sanyo Railway Class 14) was a 2-6-0 Mogul-type steam locomotive built for the JGR in 1903.

History

The 8400s, originally known as the Class 14, were probably mainly used as freight locomotives; little is known about the locomotive's service history. Four locomotives were produced by Roger Locomotive Works using blueprints from Baldwin Locomotive Works and imported into Japan in 1898. The locomotives were later renamed to Class 8400 in 1909 with the establishment of a formal rule regarding locomotive naming after the Sanyo Railway was nationalized. The locomotives were retired in 1934.

No locomotives survived into preservation.
