The JGR Class 8380 and the related Class 8360 (originally the Chūgoku Railway Class 4) were 2-6-0 Mogul-type steam locomotives operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1900 to 1948.

History

The Class 8380 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Chūgoku Railway as the Class 4, of which four locomotives were built by Baldwin Locomotive Works. These were assigned to the Chūgoku Railway and given the numbers of 5 to 8. These locomotives were used mainly on the Chūgoku Railway.

One Class 4 locomotive was transferred to the Sanyō Railway, where it was renumbered 8380. The three locomotives that remained with the Chūgoku Railway were renumbered 8360 to 8362. 8380 was retired in 1922, while the Class 8360s were retired from 1947 to 1948. No examples have been preserved.
