The JGR Class 8300 (originally the Hankaku Railway Class A8) was a 2-6-0 Mogul-type steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1906 to 1925.

History

The Class 8300 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Hankaku Railway as the Class A8, of which three locomotives were built by the American Locomotive Company. These were assigned to the Hankaku Railway and given the numbers 16 to 18.

After the Railway Nationalization Act was passed in 1909, the locomotives were renumbered the Class 8300. The Class 8300s were retired in 1925. No Class 8300s survive, although it appears at least one may have been used as a stationary boiler until about 1934.
