The JGR Class 8200 (originally the Kyushu Railway Class 46) was a 2-6-0 Mogul-type steam locomotive built for the JGR in 1896.

History

The 8200s, originally known as the Class 46s, was the first American-style tender locomotive used by the Kyushu Railway; little is known about the locomotives' service history. Four locomotives were produced by Baldwin Locomotive Works and imported into Japan in 1896. The locomotives were later renamed to Class 8200 in 1909 with the establishment of a formal rule regarding locomotive naming after the Kyushu Railway was nationalized. The locomotives were retired in 1923.

No locomotives survived into preservation. The later Class 8200 locomotives are completely unrelated to this locomotive.
