The JGR Class 8150 (originally the JGR Class X) was a 2-6-0 Mogul-type steam locomotive built for the JGR in 1890.
History[]
The 8150s, originally known as the Class X, were the first American-style locomotives to be introduced by the Japanese Government Railways; little is known about the locomotive's service history. Six locomotives were produced by Baldwin Locomotive Works and imported into Japan in 1890. The locomotives were later reclassified as the Class E3. The locomotives were later renamed to Class 8150 in 1909 with the establishment of a formal rule regarding locomotive naming after the Sanyo Railway was nationalized. The locomotives were retired in 1927.
No locomotives survived into preservation.
Trivia[]
