The JGR Class 7750 (originally the Nippon Railway Class N3/4) was a 2-6-0 Mogul-type steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1893 to 1924.

History

The Class 7750 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Nippon Railway, with a total of ten locomotives manufactured by Neilson and Company in 1893. These were classified as the Class N3/4 locomotives and numbered 77 through 86. 85 and 86 were unique in that they were compound locomotives. The locomotives were similar to the Class V and W locomotives imported around the same time.

The locomotives were reclassified as the Class 7750 in 1909 when a formal rule regarding standardized classification of locomotives was enacted; the locomotives were thus renumbered 7750 through 7759. The locomotives were initially used on the Tōhoku and Tōkaidō Line; in their later careers they were used north of Tōhoku. The locomotives were all retired from the JGR in 1924, with all transferred to the Karafuto Prefectural Railway and used on the Karafuto West Line. When the Karafuto Prefectural Railway was acquired by the JGR, seven locomotives returned to JGR ownership but all were retired by 1945. No Class 7750s have been preserved.
