The JGR Class 7200 (originally the Hokkaido Colliery and Railway Company Class C and F) was a 2-6-0 Mogul-type steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1890 to 1946.

History

The Class 7200 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Hokkaido Colliery and Railway Company, with a total of twenty-four locomotives manufactured at the Baldwin Locomotive Works from 1890 through 1897. These were classified as the Class C and F locomotives, numbered 11 through 24, 28 through 29, 33 through 37 and 39 through 46. These were later reclassified as the Class Ro and Ho locomotives respectively with their numbers unchanged.

The locomotives were reclassified as the Class 7200 in 1909 when a formal rule regarding standardized classification of locomotives was enacted; the locomotives were thus renumbered 7200 through 7224. Retirements began in 1919; by 1923 most of the remaining locomotives were used for shunting. The last locomotives were retired in 1946, with many sold to private railroads and used until the 1960s. No Class 7200s have been preserved. The later Class 7200 locomotives are not related to this locomotive.
