The JGR Class 7050 and the related Class 7080 (originally the Nippon Railway Class Dt3/4 and Class Pt3/4) were 0-6-2 Webb-type steam locomotives operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1902 to 1929.

History

The Class 7050 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Nippon Railway as the Class Dt3/4 and Pt3/4, of which twelve locomotives were built by Dübs & Co and its successor, the North British Locomotive Company. These trains were intended to haul coal trains through the Jōban Coal Field. A similar series of six locomotives, also to be designated the Class Dt3/4, were manufactured by Beyer, Peacock and Company later.

After the Railway Nationalization Act was passed in 1909, the locomotives were renumbered the Class 7050 and 7080. The locomotives were very prone to issues and were very unpopular with rail crews; this led to them having a rather short service life and all were retired by 1929. No Class 7050s or 7080s have been preserved.
