The JGR Class 6000 (originally the Kansai Railway Class 110) was a 4-4-0 American-type steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1906 to 1950.

History

The Class 6000 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Kansai Railway, with eight locomotives built by the American Locomotive Company in 1906. These were assigned the class 110, nicknamed Ōikaze (lit. "tailwind") and numbered 110 through 121.

After the Railway Nationalization Act was passed in 1909, the locomotives were reclassified as the Class 6000. The locomotives were mainly used as fast passenger locomotives in the Mie region. The locomotives were known for their high performance and used to great effect during the Pacific War; after the War the locomotives were relegated to shunting duties after other locomotives took over their roles. All were retired by 1950. No Class 6000s have been preserved.
