The JGR Class 5060 (originally the Sanyo Railway Class 8) was a 2-4-2 Columbian-type Vauclain compound steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1895 to 1919.

History

The Class 5060 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Sanyō Railway as the Class 8, of which one locomotive was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works. It was assigned to the Sanyō Railway and given the numbers 38. When originally built a commemorative plate was added to the side of the locomotive, with "K.MINAMI" written.

After the Railway Nationalization Act was passed in 1909, the locomotive was renumbered to the Class 5060. 5060 was retired in 1919 and scrapped shortly after.
