The JGR Class 5050 (originally the Sanyo Railway Class 19) was a 2-4-2 Columbian-type steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways in 1909.

History

The Class 5050 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was originally ordered as the Class 19, and was converted by Sanyō Railway at their own Hyōgo Works. The locomotive selected for the conversion was Class 10 locomotive 50, and would remain the only member of its class.

50 was converted into the Class 19 in 1909; despite being converted the locomotive retained its original number. When the Railway Nationalization Act passed that same year, the locomotive was reclassified as the Class 5050. The locomotive was reconverted back into a Class 950 tank locomotive in December of the same year and renumbered 959, and served the rest of its life as a tank locomotive before being scrapped.
